DECEMBER 5th, 2021

Letter from the PTSA

Dear Puma Family,

Thank you for your generous support of the Rosa Parks PTSA during our Pass the Hat Fundraiser! Together we raised $28,330 during Pass the Hat with $16,635.96 in matching donations so far.

Your donation will help provide important support and enrichment to the students of Rosa Parks Elementary. Although this year is ever-evolving, Rosa Parks PTSA will continue to think of ways to enhance the student, staff, and school experience. This year, PTSA plans to provide:

  • - Community Events (Back-to-School Dance, Pancake Breakfast, Science Fair, International Night, and End-of-Year Party)
  • - STEM Adventures and ArtSmart (coming back this school year!)
  • - Teacher Grants (so teachers can provide supplemental resources for students)
  • - Scholarships
  • - Student Magazine Subscriptions and Planners
  • - Teacher & Staff Appreciation Gifts
  • - Emergency Preparedness Supplies
  • - New Programs such as Spelling Bee
  • - Special Education Support
  • - All School Enrichment Events such as Toymaker
  •   ...and much more!

Don't forget that you can double your donation impact by submitting a matching donation if your employer has a corporate matching program! All donations should be made to Rosa Parks PTSA (not Rosa Parks Elementary). Please check our website for more information: Rosa Parks Elementary PTSA - Corporate Matching (rosaparksptsa.org) We will count corporate matching funds towards our $50,000 school-wide goal outdoor movie prize!

And as promised, Pass the Hat prizes are on their way! All participants will receive a Puma keychain by the end of this week. All participants that raised $125 or more will receive a Puma Stuffym, they will be distributed to students at school before winter break if possible or right after (due to production and shipping delays). In addition, 2nd grade will be receiving an extra recess for being the top donating class, which has been coordinated with the school. Our top 3 classes will be silly stringing the principal and our top 3 donating students will get a turn at being Principal for the Day in December.

Thank you again for your support of our school and community. Together, we can make a positive difference in our children's educational experience.

Bulletin Board Volunteers

Do you have some time to spare during school hours? Rosa Parks is seeking volunteers to decorate bulletin boards and display student art work on bulletin boards in common learning areas. Volunteers must be LWSD approved and have their COVID-19 vaccination status filed with the district. Masking and social distancing will apply on school property. Please find more information and the signup here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/409094AAFAF2FA7F85-bulletin.

Math Adventures Needs Volunteers!

Do you enjoy playing board games and sharing a joy of STEM with kids?  PTSA is looking for parent volunteers to help out with our amazing Math Adventures/STEM program with your kid’s class.  Working with our amazing teachers, we donate 1-2 hrs a month to play STEM related games with our students.  There are many roles you can fulfill from being a classroom STEM coordinator to volunteering your time to play games with the kids.  No experience is necessary and everything you need is right on campus.  If you are interested in volunteering for STEM, please contact STEM@ROSAPARKSPTSA.ORG with your name and kid’s teacher.  You do need to be an approved volunteer with your vaccination status on record.  If you want to check your volunteer status (needs to be renewed every two years), start a new application, or get your vaccination status on record please go to https://www.lwsd.org/get-involved/volunteering-in-lwsd .

Updated Volunteer Requirements

Rosa Parks is happy to welcome our volunteers back into our school. At this time, volunteers are allowed in the building, but not in the classrooms or shared learning spaces.

LWSD is following Governor Inslee’s vaccination mandate regarding K-12 volunteers. As of October 18, volunteers in our schools will have to be vaccinated. There are now two ways for volunteers to show proof of vaccination. These will be available until at least Oct. 18: In-person and Remote through Microsoft Teams. Visit this link to learn more.

As a reminder, all volunteers will need to be an approved LWSD volunteer, follow the current masking and physical distancing requirements, and sign in at the school office.

If you have any questions about your approval status, please contact Chris Robison. If you’ve let your volunteer approval status lapse or you need to apply for the first time, please fill out the online application.
