Parent volunteer requirements

After-school programs are allowed at Rosa Parks due to PTSA sponsorship. Our PTSA insurance policy states that in order to run our programs the following requirements must be met. It is the PTSA’s responsibility to ensure that each of our members adhere to these policies in order to protect our PTSA and our after-school programs.

In order for your student to participate in a PTSA after-school program, you, as the parent or guardian, are required to volunteer as a class chaperone at least once during the course of each program your student is in.

Please read the Program Policies found on the Rosa Parks PTSA website for more information. By registering for a program, you agree to comply with these policies.

        PTSA Membership Requirement

  • At least one adult approved by the school district to volunteer must be present to witness any potential accidents that may occur. If you are not currently a PTSA member, we invite you to join as you are required to be a PTSA member to participate.
  • It is your responsibility to find a district approved chaperone to cover for you if you cannot make your scheduled day. If the chaperone is not present, the class will have to be cancelled. If you fail to show up, your child may lose his/her spot in the program (no refund).
  • Each volunteer must be cleared by the Lake Washington school district in order to volunteer in any after-school program. You can pick up a volunteer application from the front office or go online to www.lwsd.org. It generally takes two weeks for approval. Please make sure you give yourself time to be cleared before you are scheduled to volunteer.
  • Each parent is accountable for their scheduled day/days to chaperone. There will be a sign-in sheet at each after-school program for the PTSA chaperone to sign.

All chaperones must be approved volunteers by the LWSD as well as members of the Rosa Parks PTSA. Your responsibilities as a chaperone include:

  • Witness any accidents should they occur. Follow appropriate emergency guidelines and report accident to PTSA
  • If a student does not show up and notification was not given, you will need to go to the office and use the emergency form to contact parents/guardians
  • If the program instructor cannot make it to school, you will need to use the emergency forms to contact all parents/guardians to have the children picked up. The location of the forms will be communicated when school begins.
  • Take attendance at the beginning of each session.
  • Check out students at the end of each session, remaining on site until all student have been picked up and signed out.
  • Teachers do their best to aid children in getting to their after school activity. Please remind your child each day that he or she is to stay after school.
  • Notify the after school program instructor if your child will NOT be attending that day for any reason via email. The instructors will be taking attendance for the safety of your child. The office staff is not responsible to notify the program instructor.
  • Please pick up your child promptly.

Attendance

Student Behavior

In preparing children for life, certain structure of non-negotiable behavior will be emphasized and strictly enforced:

  • Students will take responsibility for their own learning.
  • Students will respond to supervising adults at Rosa Parks in a respectful manner.
  • Students will work in a safe manner in relation to themselves, others and property.

Each staff member or supervising adult will utilize their professional judgment in determining if the observed or reported behavior demonstrates lack of any of the above categories. Should inappropriate behaviors occur, all supervising adults would provide immediate consequences, i.e., warning, removal and/or suspension from the Rosa Parks PTSA program.

Class schedule

All after-school programs are offered on a per program basis. They are only held when school is in session for a full day. Please consult the specific program web page to determine class meeting times and days.

Withdrawals/refunds

No refunds will be granted. In addition, no transfer of fees will be allowed to any other program or student.

Make-up classes

As programs will run the full length of each session, there will be no make-up classes unless deemed necessary by the instructor. An individual class may be canceled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. Cancellations will be brought to the attention of all participants as soon as possible.

Program cancellations

A program may be canceled in its entirety due to lack of enrollment or unforeseen circumstances. In this case, a full refund will be granted to all participants.

Child pick-up

Parents must pick up children immediately following the end of each class in the designated classroom of the child's activity. Children will be released only to authorized guardians. Written notification must be provided if alternate arrangements are made, including if a child is permitted to walk home. Please respect the commitments of our instructors and arrive promptly for pick-up. You must come into school and sign-out your child. If you are late picking up your child, you will incur a late fee and your child will be removed from the program (no refund).

Emergency information

General Rosa Parks policies will be in effect. Please ensure that your family emergency contact information is current and complete for each child.

Medical concerns/issues

Any and all medical issues regarding your child must be brought to the attention PTSA Programs chair and Instructor prior to the start of each program. All concerns and information must be in writing on the PTSA emergency form. All After School Programming follows the Rosa Parks School Health and Wellness Policies currently in effect and as stated in the School Handbook.
